The Calgary Youth Foundation is operated by youth who are responsible for distributing grant money to important youth-driven projects. This provides hands-on experience that benefits both the participating students and local charities. 
The Calgary Youth Foundation began in 1994 as the first program of its kind in Canada to provide youth with the opportunity to create positive change in their community through a 'hands on approach' to philanthropy. Adult involvement is strictly advisory. The Calgary Foundation provides long term support to Child and Youth Friendly Calgary for the administration and educational aspects of the Calgary Youth Foundation Program. The program also allows Calgary Youth Foundation members to job shadow Foundation staff as well as attend a Community Foundation regional or national meeting.
