Janes Walk 2008 - Get to know your city, Calgary!

A series of free neighbourhood walking tours happened in eight Canadian cities May 3 & 4, 2008.  The walks celebrate the legacy and ideas of urban activist and writer Jane Jacobs who championed a fresh, community-based approach to city building. Jane’s Walk is a coordinated series of free neighbourhood walking tours given by local people who care passionately about where they live, work and play.

Forever Funds Speaker Series - Dr. Stephen Post

On February 24, 2008, The Calgary Foundation - in partnership with Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, presented the inargural Forever Funds Speaker Series event - 'It's Good to be Good: Why Giving of Oneself is Essential to Health & Happiness' with Dr. Stephen Post. This event was supported by the Calgary Health Region.

Dr. Stephen Post, author of Why Good Things Happen to Good People. Dr. Post discussed ways of improving physical and mental health based on his 15 years of research into the benefits of giving, kindness and compassion. The Forever Funds Speaker Series was established to facilitate discussions and encourage civic engagement in five areas that require increased community leadership and funding: mental health, diversity & inclusion, seniors, arts & heritage and environment.

2007 Friends of the Foundation Annual Celebration

   Over 700 guests attended the Friends of the Annual Celebration on October 22nd, 2007.

   Dr. Thomas Homer-Dixon, Canada's leading theorist and award winning author of numerous

   books including The Ingenuity Gap and The Upside of Down was the keynote speaker.

   The event also marked the official launch of Calgary's Vital Signs - an initiative that is

   The Calgary Foundation, along with partners - Alberta Real Estate Foundation, Max Bell                    Foundation and Suncor Energy Foundation - recently hosted a luncheon with the very 

   thoughtful and humble guest speaker, David Rockefeller, Jr. As a member of one of the most
    prominent families in the history of philanthropy, Mr. Rockefeller says,“There’s no prescription for

    how to do philanthropy, it’s individual, 1000 flowers blooming is the idea - it can be very satisfying and great fun, not the grim faced activity that you do because you have to. Philanthropy takes engagement with an issue, with an organization, with building community  at heart.”
